THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: The latest Congress strategy is to push former chief minister Oommen Chandy into the Lok Sabha election fray that will take place in a few months.
There has been a growing demand within the Congress party that Ommen Chandy should contest the election. The leaders feel that the presence of Oommen Chandy would benefit Congress as it is a decisive election.
Though Chandy is not interested in contesting the election, he may change his stand if pressured by leaders and especially the Congress high command.
KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran’s statement that Oommen Chandy has a definite space in national politics is also a pointer that the former chief minister may contest the Lok Sabha election. Mullapally told a TV Channel that Chandy would win, wherever he fought the election battle from.
The speculation is rife that Ommen Chnady would contest from either in Kottayam or Wayanad. Kottayam is Kerala Congress’ seat but if Chandy comes to contest, the Kerala Congress will leave that seat to Chandy and contest the Idukki seat.
Meanwhile, Mullapally Ramachandran has said that he would not contest when holding the post of KPCC president.
