NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will consider the pleas urging to remove the control of temples from devaswom board on January 31. The court rejected state government’s request to postpone considering the pleas.
The government requested to consider this plea only after a decision is taken on the review pleas in connection with the Sabarimala issue. The government pointed that decision taken by the court on the review pleas is connected with this plea. However, the court rejected this demand of the state government.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and T G Mohandas in the pleas filed alleged arbitrariness in the process of nominations and elections of the members to the Travancore Devaswom Board and Cochin Devaswom Board.
However the government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court the other day clarifying that they don’t interfere in the functioning of autonomous institutions such as devaswom boards. The affidavit filed asserted that allegation of plaintiffs that income for devaswom boards other than temples is being shifted to treasuries is baseless.
