operation-thunder

Vigilance department’s lightning raid ‘Operation Thunder’ have all but worsened the bad image of police in the society. Raid was conducted at 53 police stations. There were series of irregularities in all of these stations including unaccounted money and faked mainour documents. This is like having offenders protecting the law. If a felon and plaintiff is treated the same way in a police station, who does the common man approach for justice? Corruption starts when certain police officers try for posting at police stations where presence of mafias are strong. Some officers use this opportunity only to make illegal money. Such cases of corruption stay under wraps in most police stations. Even if someone notices any problems, they are forced to keep silence.

It’s the duty of supreme officers to check whether police stations are run properly and lawfully. ‘Operation Thunder’ is proof that it is not carried out properly. Some mainours have gone ‘missing’ at some police stations with an explanation that those were washed away by floods. Adimali police station is an example.

There are innumerous cases related to quarry mafias in recent times. It’s clear as sky how such cases are compromised in police stations. There are officers who behave like kings and allow offenders to carry on with their business, breaking all existing laws.

It’s mandatory to register and issue receipt for all petitions. How many police stations in the state follow this? Do petitioners ask for this? Hundreds of petitions were found unattended in the vigilance raid.

Even the supreme investigation agency in the country-CBI is not free from corruption. So there is no point in hoping for corruption-free police stations. It is the responsibility of the state government to clear the bad image of Kerala police, which was named as the most efficient in the country. For this, frequent checks should be done at police stations. If there is a system to oversee, there will be an order for everything. Culprits and corrupt people should be punished regardless of influence. Corruption and irregularities would be high at places where even supreme officers indulge in such activities. Such officers shouldn’t be given charge to maintain order and peace. This should serve as a warning for others.

All police stations in the state have become a cemetery of vehicles. These are vehicles caught by the police for breaking rules. However no steps are taken to remove or hand them back to owners after charging fine. These automobiles are kept for auction once it is rusted and damaged. Private goods worth crores of rupees are ruined this way. There is complete ignorance from the police regarding in this issue.
