KASARAGOD: Willing to rethink on contesting Lok Sabha elections if High Command asks, says Congress working committee Chairman Oommen Chandy. He was talking to the press after inaugurating Kerala Congress (M)’s ‘Kerala Yatra’ lead by Jose K. Mani.

Chandy repeated his stand of not contesting in Lok Sabha elections in his inaugural speech as well. But while talking to the press, he made a slight change to his stand.

“I haven’t even thought about contesting from Kottayam. That constituency is Kerala Congress’ own. Congress haven’t tried to take away the seats of any allied parties in UDF in the past, it won’t happen in future too,” Chandy said.

There were rumours that Chandy might contest Lok Sabha election from Kottayam or Idukki. KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran’s statement welcoming Chandy to contest strengthened these rumours.

IUML and other allied parties in UDF have clarified that seat sharing haven’t started within the front. Kerala Congress (M) have said that they are not willing to give up Kottayam seat and are eligible for more seats.
