THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Expert committee that was appointed to study development of education, recommended to the government to unify control and coordination of education under one directorate. Another suggestion is to raise the eligibility criteria for teachers thereby making them professional.
The committee compromising of Dr. M.A. Khader as Chairman and G. Jyothichoodan and Dr. C. Ramakrishnan as members submitted their report to Chief Minister yesterday. Education minister C. Raveendranath and Secretary A. Shahjahan were present.
Other major recommendations
Degree should be made compulsory for teachers from standard one to seven. Also a professional eligibility equivalent to degree is required
For secondary level, Post-Graduation and a professional eligibility equivalent to graduation is required
Conditions put forward by NCTE should be made eligibility for Pre-school
Pre schooling facility should be made available from three years
Action should be taken against pre-school teacher training centres without accreditation
Pre schooling laws should be formed
Revenue and district wise educational offices should be formed under joint director
All vocational higher secondary schools should become secondary schools
School head should be named Principal
KAS should be developed into education service in education sector
Arts and sports training should be given for all students from fifth to plus two
