THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have arrested the man who attacked director Priyanandanan. He has been identified as Sarovar, a native of Vallappuzha in Thrissur and a RSS activist. He was arrested from Kodungallur. He attacked Priyanandanan following the director’s Facebook post over Sabarimala issue. He was arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by Priyanandanan that RSS activists thrashed him and poured cow dung mixed water on him. He was attacked at 9 am on Friday morning. He was attacked by a gang while he was going to a shop in Vallanchira junction.
Priyanandanan had accused that RSS-BJP activists were behind the attack. Sangh Parivar activists had earlier staged protests in the name of the post. He had withdrawn the post following cyber-attacks. He had asserted that he deleted the post as the language in the post was bad and that there is no change in his stand and is not ready to offer an apology.
Meantime, BJP leader B Gopalakrishnan said both the BJP and the RSS have no connection with the incident. If we had wanted to attack him it would have happened earlier. A march was staged towards his house in a democratic manner in the name of the post. The police had then blocked the march. A complaint was lodged and a case was registered. We had ended our protests later, added Gopalakrishnan.
