KOTTAYAM: A campaign for senior leader Oommen Chandy to contest from Idukki is getting huge mileage within the Congress party. Oommen Chandy had expressed his willingness to participate in the election, only if the high command asks him to do so. P J Jospeh has demanded a seat in addition to the Kerala Congress (M) seat and he has clarified that he is not ready to contest from Idukki. P J Joseph has also clarified that he is ready to welcome Oommen Chandy to contest from Idukki.

Joyce George is likely to contest from Idukki as LDF candidate. UDF needs a strong candidate like Oommen Chandy so that they can win the seat. If UPA assumes power at the centre, there is a probability that Oommen Chandy will become a union minister. Congress activist in Kottayam and Idukki districts had expressed their demands to make Oommen Chandy to contest from Idukki.
