THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has disapproved of Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi’s appearance on the dais of the meeting during Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam, a gathering against young women’s entry in Sabarimala held last week at Putharikandam maidan. He expressed his disappointment at her attendance in his weekly TV programme ‘Naam Munnottu’

“Mata Amritanandamayi should not have participated in the meeting organised by the Sabarimala Karma Samiti. People inside and outside Kerala who believe and admire Amritanandamayi have disliked her attendance in the event,” the CM said.

Pinarayi said the Sangh Parivar had been trying to lead Amma in the wrong path. Earlier she had shown the gumption to stay away from their trap. She had been supporting entry of all women in Sabarimala and only recently she changed her stand.

Mata Amritandanmayi had inaugurated the Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam. In the event, Amritanandamayi had termed the controversy surrounding Sabarimala unfortunate.

Showering praise on Women’s Wall, Pinarayi said it was a success and efforts will be further taken to revive Renaissance values. “A follow-up of the intention behind the wall will be there. Awareness will be created in society and among youth about the need for women’s empowerment and gender equality. There will also be intervention at academic level for inculcating Renaissance values in youth,” he added.
