thantri

KOCHI: Kerala high court has rejected a petition filed against Devawon board’s show cause notice to Sabarimala thantri Kandarau Rajeevaru, who performed purification rites after two women entered Sabarimala temple recently.

The petition was filed by a Bengaluru native, questioning the action of Travancore Devaswom Board. The court dimissed the petition, observing that the petition was not valid.

Soon after it was confirmed that two women Bindu and Kanka Durga had sneaked into the temple through the backdoor, the thantri had closed the door of the sanctum sanctorum and performed purification rites. Following this, the Devaswom Board issued the notice to the thantri.

Both government and Devaswon board maintained that performing purification rites was violation of Devaswom Board manual Devaswom Board Manuel and the Supreme Court order.

But the Thazhman thantri family clarified that the thantri had the supreme right regarding the customs and rites of Sabarimala temple.
