THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The online facility to pay water bill has been not working for the past two days following server failure. These severs were bought without following the tender actions and had also resulted in a vigilance investigation. The servers are almost eight years old and authority is now preparing to buy new servers. The tender actions are in the final stage. The servers were bought for Rs. 40 lakh without following the tender order, and vigilance had demanded to register a case regarding this matter. However, government took the stand that this action was legal.
Two of the total eight severs are being used for paying the water bills. They are used for application and data base. The water authority plans to buy two new servers and another two servers that can be used in emergency situations.
When a server fails, it usually takes three days to solve the issue. Usually the necessary items are brought from Bengaluru to install and solve the issue. These servers had failed five times within four months.
There are no one in water authority who can handle the data base. There is a requirement for a data base administrator and two additional staff. Though it was decided to appoint someone two years ago, further proceedings are being delayed.
