THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are 967 prisoners in three central prisons and two open jails across the state who have not yet availed parole facility, while those who have political ties, always enjoy parole. 83 people have not obtained a parole for more than 20 years. Poojappura central jail has the most number of prisoners who have not yet obtained parole. 513 prisoners out of the total 1457 prisoners in Poojappura are sentenced for a lifetime, and out of these prisoners, only 127 people have obtained parole.

Report is important

Parole is granted for a prisoner as per the report submitted by the police and social justice department probation officer. Police should make sure that the prisoner should not violate any law and order, also should not harm any family members of themselves or the family members of victims. Parole is granted after considering all these facts.

Parole

A convicted person who has been sentenced for a lifetime can apply for parole only after suffering two years punishment. The application will be submitted to the jail DGP with the recommendation of local police and probation officer. Jail DGP has the authority to grant the parole. Two months parole can be availed in a year.
