KANNUR: UDF is trying to bring Revolutionary Marxist Party to the Front as Janatha Dal have left. The plan is to get a strong hold at Vadakara constituency, where the sitting M.P. and KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran won last time with a small margin. RMP managed to recruit several people with leftist stands to the party at national level and formed RMPI. A large section within RMPI supports the move to join UDF as they cannot go back to CPM. RMP state committee meeting which is set to take place on Thursday, will take an official decision regarding this.
RMP central committee will meet on February 19 and 20 in Ernakulam. RMP’s influence is said to have played a role in two consecutive victories of Mullappally Ramachandran. Some sources even claim that RMP might contest the election from Vadakara in UDF seat.
RMP have been a strong force at Vadakara since 2009 when T.P Chandrasekharan formed the party after leaving CPM. In the Lok Sabha election of 2009, Chandrasekharan contested from Vadakara and got 21,833 votes. After Chandrasekharan’s murder in 2014, Adv. Kumaran Kutty contested from Vadakara constituency and garnered 17,299 votes. In the 2016 state assembly election, Chandrasekharan’s wife K.K. Rema got 20,504 votes. So the RMP leaders claim that the party have a strong influence in Vadakara.
