KANNUR: IUML’s chances of getting one more seat in addition to Ponnani and Malappuram in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is getting reduced. It has been reported that IUML may have to be satisfied with the current seats. However, Mulsim League leaders are adamant that they deserve one more seat.
Kerala Congress (M) and League had demanded one more seat while the representatives met Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Rahul had asked them to settle the issue with state leaders of Congress. League has decided to take such a stand following Kerala Congress (M)’s demand for an additional seat. Organizations such as ‘samastha’ are putting pressure on them.
IUML members are hoping to get either Kasargod, Vadakara or Wayanad as their third seat. However, Congress will not give these seats to IUML.
Sitting MPs P K Kunjalikkutty and E T Muhammed Basheer will contest from Ponnani and Malappuram. However, if Kunjalikkutty plans to come back to state politics, IUML may have to find a new candidate in Malappuram.
