THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is expecting an additional revenue of Rs 1785 crores by increasing the prices of cars, bikes, movie tickets and luxury houses. The budget also targets to strictly collect tax arrears which amount to over Rs 2000 crores.

Houses up to 3000 square feet will have to pay Rs 4000 as tax. This will be Rs 6000 for houses up to 7500 square feet and Rs 8000 for houses with an area up to 10000 square feet. Rs 10,000 will be levied as tax for houses with a built-up area above 10,000 square feet.

The fair value of land will increase by 10 percent. Registration should be done accordingly.

All types of alcoholic beverages will see a hike in taxes by 2 percent.

Tax for new motor vehicles has been increased by one percent. Electric auto rickshaws will get relaxation in taxes by 50 percent for five years. For other electric vehicles, this will be 25 percent.

Meanwhile, calamity cess has been imposed on all items except food, agricultural, items with five percent tax and other items without tax. Calamity cess of one percent will be levied. For gold, silver, platinum and diamond jewelry, calamity cess of 0.25 percent will be charged.

An additional 10 percent entertainment tax will be imposed on movie tickets over GST.
