THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There were speculations that super star Mohanlal will contest as a BJP candidate in the coming Lok Sabha polls. However neither the party nor stars have so far responded to it officially. Senior BJP leader O Rajagopal has now come forward with the confirmation that the actor is being considered. The BJP leaders had also approached the actor for it, Rajagopal said in an interview to a national channel.

Rajagopal said the actor is interested in social issues including politics. It is true that the actor is being considered in the capital city. The actor, a native of the capital city, is in the BJP’s radar. Leaders had approached him. He is not a party member. We are persuading him to contest but I don't know whether he will accept or not.

Meantime, Mohanlal has a close rapport with BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The actor had wished Modi on his birthday and the latter had acknowledged it and this was misinterpreted as the actor’s political entry. The actor had called on the Prime Minister in Delhi. The actor was recently honoured with the Padma Bhushan.
