THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eleven DySPs, who are facing disciplinary action, have been degraded to CIs. The government has issued an order in this regard.
The action was initiated against police who had got temporary promotions. Transfer was given to 53 DySPs and 11 ASPs. 26 CIs were promoted as DySPs. The recommendation was to degrade 12 officers.
The home ministry’s explanation is that officers given temporary promotions as DySPs were demoted. The action is also part of the decision to bring in more control over the police force.
The election commission had also instructed that officers having direct connection with election be transferred in the wake of imminent Lok Sabha election. The transfers are in accordance with this instruction.
In the State, this the first time that instruction has been given for degrading so many officers. Ironically, many officers, facing departmental action and facing allegations, had got promotions. This was on the basis of a rule in Kerala police act that disciplinary action cannot come in the way of promotions.
