THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As Tomin J. Thachankary is removed as the CMD of KSRTC, its normal functioning has been effected. On one side, labor unions are trying to impose themselves over RTC. On the other side, the management and superior officers are staying impassive.
Labour unions are trying to overthrow the driver-cum-conductor system and prove their power. Jinu, an employee who came for driver-cum-conductor duty was not allowed to do his job. Depot authorities allowed what the labor unions want. Driver-cum-conductor system was overthrown in six other services.
When Tomin Thachankary served as CMD of KSRTC, driver-cum-conductor system was implemented in two phases. In the first phase, this was implemented in steering duties extending over eight hours. In order to overcome the conductor shortage driver-cum-conductor system was implemented in long distance services with steering duty not longer than eight hours.
Driver-cum-conductor system was introduced to avoid accidents that happen in long distance services.
