THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to demote 11 of temporarily promoted policemen, who are facing disciplinary action. They will be demoted to CI rank from DySP rank. Such a mass demotion is happening for the first time. They are facing action for getting involved in several cases and making many lapses. Meantime, other officers who are promoted to DySP rank are to be remained in the same position.

When a batch gets promoted, even those who face disciplinary action gets promoted. However, the government had brought a new ordinance after removing the 6th sub-section in101th section of the police Kerala police act in order to block the promotion of those who face disciplinary action. Now, the policemen cannot go to the court as the ordinance has been brough. However, they are likely to approach the High Court on Monday.

The home department had revaluated the list of temporarily promoted DySPs since 2016. The government had recommended to demote 12 officers. However, DySP Madhu Babu came forwad with a stay against the action for two days. All other 11 officers were demoted.
