THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is trying to send a message through the demotion of 11 officers of DySP rank. Chief Minister’s Office has made it clear that police should interact with people with their promotion in mind.
The government has amended the rule that allowed police officers to re-enter official duty after six suspensions for even being culprits of murder or rape cases. This rule allowed such officers to have a chance at promotions too. The government’s next duty is to implement HC’s order that stops officers that are facing action for criminal offenses from returning to official duty.
On implementation of this rule, murderers inside police force will not be able to do things as they want. The government always found it difficult to punish officers with a criminal background. More than 950 such officers are still with the police force. Officers with a criminal history are also the root for unholy police relations with mafias and quotation gangs.
