THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union leaders hurled abuses and roughed up officials from Legal Metrological department at Manacaud market, where they were carrying out inspection to detect anomalies in weighing.
Neudmangadu Legal Metrological Inspector B Priya, Kattakada Inspector Shajahan, Kaimanunit Inspecting assistant Abdul Gafoor Khan and driver Muneershah were attacked. There is an injury on the Priya’s left arm. The Fort police have arrested two persons in this connection.
Police have also filed a case against 15 other identifiable persons. The police said that CITU leaders were behind the attack.
The inspection was jointly conducted by Legal Metrology-Civil Supplies department on Monday around 11 am. The team seized about 15 weighing balance that did not have brandings or were manipulated. Following this, union leaders rounded them and beat them.
Inspecting assistant Abdul Gafoor was dragged out of his vehicle and thrashed. The driver Muneershah who fell on the road in the milieu was kicked on his back.
When Shajjahan and Muneer tried to capture the attack on their mobile phones, the goons seized the mobiles and destroyed them.
Priya’s hand got injured when they tried to grab their mobile phone. The arrested have been identified as Suresh and Sundara Pillaii. The inspection was not blocked by the traders.
