KOLLAM: Actor Kollam Thulasi surrendered before the police for his derogatory remarks against women entry in Sabarimala. He surrendered at the Chavara Police Station. While addressing a crowd on October 12, the actor said women coming to Sabarimala temple should be ripped into two. One half should be sent to Delhi and the other should be thrown at the room of the chief minister. He delivered the speech against the verdict of the Supreme Court allowing women of all ages to enter Sabarimala. The police had registered a case then.
A case was registered against him on the complaint filed by a Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist. The actor had been charged with offences under Sections 505 (statement conducing to public mischief), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
He had tendered an unconditional apology within hours of the speech. He said that he did not have any political inclination and he made the remarks on the spur of the moment. Nor had he made any attempt to incite any person to commit any offence.
