KANNUR: ‘Janamahayatra’ which was planned as a state-wide program to collect funds and improve the finances of the Congress, sees red just after passing two districts. The party was not able to gather finances anywhere close to its target. From 1857 booths in Kasaragod and Kannur, the party expected Rs 2.22 crores, while the collected funds didn’t even cross one lakh mark. KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran dismissed all the booth and constituent committees that lapsed in collecting funds. This also serves as a warning for the respective committees of other districts. In all possibility, infighting could start within the party in the name of finances.
Mr. Ramachandran also issued a final warning to committees that gave funds just for namesake. The party is set to take disciplinary actions if the required amount is not fulfilled within ten days. On the other side, constituent committees claim that the leadership didn’t utter a word on funds once the rally started. Also, they had already collected funds three times within six months, which makes it difficult for collecting any further funds.
