KANNUR: Health Minister K K Shylaja has come with a helping hand for Niyamol’s misery which went viral in the social media. Niyashree of Perlasseri, who was born deaf, was able to hear only recently. In between that, she lost her hearing aid. She was able to hear only after the surgery of cochlear implant at Kozhikode Medical College under state government’s Shruthitharangam Project. She could not even speak and has just started speaking.

The cochlear implant was fixed on two-year-old Niya, daughter of Rajesh of Perlasseri, only three months back. She was gradually coming back to life. In between that, she lost her bag containing the hearing aid during a train journey to Kozhikode medical college. Due to heavy rush, the bag was hung on the side of the ladies compartment. The equipment was in the bag.

The cochlear implant surgery costing Rs 8 lakh was done free of cost through government’s project. Her father had requested to hand over the bag if anyone gets it. This is my daughter’s life, her father had stated. An amount of Rs 5 lakh is needed to buy a new one. The family had no other means to buy a new one. Many called after hearing the news. Oommen Chandy called today, but nobody called to return the lost bag, he said.
