IDUKKI: Nation’s first High Altitude Research Centre will be at Munnar Engineering College campus. This is a joint venture of Madras IIT, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change and Centre for Continuing Education-Kerala. All three organizations signed an agreement on this. This will bring about a revolutionary change in the field of climate change.

The study report of the combined study made by Madras IIT and Munnar Engineering College was very useful in the research of climate change. So a decision was taken to start a permanent research center at the college campus. Construction of buildings will be undertaken by the Habitat Technology group with the help of Madras IIT.

Details on specialties in earth science, variation in wind and atmospheric temperature will be collected and research will be done on a long term basis.

According to researchers, if accurate information is collected on the effects of human intervention in climate change, key details in the structure of climate change could be calculated.

The research will be headed by Madras ITT Prof. Sachin S. Gunte and Munnar Engineering College Civil Department Head Prof. C.V. Biju.

Munnar Engineering College is situated at a place where wind speed, direction and climatic differences could be recorded accurately.
