THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Khadi Board Vice-person Shobhana George has said that there is no need to send reply to the legal notice sent by actor Mohanlal to the Khadi Board.

“The board’s decision is to take further steps after looking into the legal action taken by Mohanlal. We don’t think we have done any mistake so as to apologise to the actor. We also don’t have the financial status to pay up Rs 50 crore,” Shobhana said.

In August, the board had criticised Mohanlal for appearing in the advertisement of a private Khadi Company. He was seen spinning a ‘charkha’ with of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite hymns ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ played in the backdrop. Mohanlal has been the brand ambassador of khadi board products. Khadi board had come out against the actor, fearing that the private advertisement might affect its business prospects.

In his legal notice, Mohanlal had demanded that Khadi board should either tender a public apology or publish an apology notice on media. If the board is not ready for this, it should pay a compensation of Rs 50 crore.
