Unwavering faith of people in a nation’s law system depends on the unbiased and independent functioning of courts. A court verdict may or may not favor the majority. But in time everyone will accept it; that’s the nature around the world. Even the slightest of doubts in the nation’s law system could have serious implications. Human errors could affect some cases. Most of these are rectified on a timely basis. There is a reason for saying this now; CJI Ranjan Gogoi sacked two SC officers for tampering with an order related to Reliance Communications. It’s an unusual decision from the CJI and the media highlighted it with massive importance. Two court masters, Manav Sharma, and Tapan Kumar Chakraborty were sacked for tampering with the order, which originally asked Anil Ambani and co to make a personal appearance in the Court. But the order that was uploaded in the Court’s website read the exact opposite. Ericson’s attorney found the mistake and brought it to the Court’s notice after three days. On investigation, it was found that the officers had tampered with the order. With the special authority of the Court as specified in section 311, CJI Ranjan Gogoi sacked the court masters.

It’s unbelievable that even the top court in the country is not free from corruption. Officers that are responsible for writing down the Judge’s order resorting to such duplicity is rare and shameful. It is a matter of utmost seriousness. However, by punishing the officers the Court has brought light to this dark incidence.

Anil Ambani’s company owe Rs 550 crores to the Swedish company. As they committed lapse in paying up the amount, Ericson approached the Supreme Court. Both parties reached a proposition to settle the amount before September 30, 2018. RCom couldn’t keep up their promise and the Swedes approached the court again.

Judiciary is a pillar of democracy. Not even the slightest shade of suspicion should affect its system. Courts are the last resort of justice for a citizen. Bribery and tampering with the law are serious insults to the law system. This is further evidence of how worse our social order has become. It’s not a secret that corruption had always been there in our system. By punishing the corrupt officers the Court has given a warning to those who think that the law could be bend to their wills. The common man suffocates due to corruption. People like Anna Hazare had to stage indefinite hunger strikes to put a hold to corruption. The nation’s wait for Lokayukta has crossed decades with no signs of implementation. The foolishness of the business tycoon who thought that he could get away by tampering with the order should be duly noted here.
