KASARGOD: CPM local committee member A Peethambaran has been taken into custody in connection with the murder of two youth congress activists in Periya. The police are questioning Peethambaran and six others including CPM sympathisers Murali, Sajeevan and Dasan at a secret centre. The arrest of some will be registered today. There are hints that the police have obtained information of the team who committed the crime.

Peethambaran has been expelled from the party following the incident. The party district leadership informed that the party leadership had no knowledge on the murder and local issues are behind it. It was Uduma MLA K Kunhiraman who stated that Peethambaran has been expelled from the party. A probe will be conducted, he said.

Kripesh and Sharath Lal, the two who were hacked to death in Kasargod, were accused in attacking Peethambaran. A clash broke out between Congress and CPM activists at the campus and Peethambaram sustained injuries in the attack. Enmity on it is suspected to be behind the murder.
