THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The efforts made by CITU Union, which has the support of half of KSRTC employees, went in vain as KSRTC’s daily collection couldn’t be bettered in the ‘bus day’, organized by CITU Employees Association. The program was aimed to increase the collection to Rs. 7 crores per day, while the actual collection was only Rs 5.60 crores, much below than the average Rs 6.5 crores.
The income was maintained by scheduling buses according to passengers’ liking. KSRTC registered massive lows in the collection after Tomin J. Thachankary was removed from MD position. Without Thachankary’s presence, Union leaders took over and implemented schedules to their liking. ‘Bus day’ was planned to better the collection. Campaigning made by leftist groups was ineffective. Leftist organizations requested government employees to travel by bus on the 20th of February. KSRTC management officially took over the ‘bus day’. KSRTC MD M.P. Dinesh directed to schedule bus services so as to increase income.
The management, however, says that Attukal Pongala and hartal on Monday affected the collection. KSRTEA says that the plan is for 100 days and not for one day.
