KOCHI:A day after a major fire broke out at Brahmapuram waste management plant, Kochi city is completely immersed in smoke. Maradu, Chambakara and Vyttila areas are facing extreme situation due to clouds of smoke. MG road, Panampilly nagar areas are also fully immersed in smoke. Foul smell is also persistent in the atmosphere.

The fire is not extinguished yet. The situation has not been able to be brought under control. 10 units of fire engines are still fighting to douse the fire. If it couldn't be put off by noon, the fire is likely to be spread to more areas.

Plastic dumps in the waste management plant had caught fire yesterday evening around 4.30 pm. The fire has spread uncontrollably. The fire and rescue officials who rushed to the spot on an alert found it a major fire and difficult to extinguish as it had spread out widely. The operation went on late in the night also.

Residents and locals are experiencing health issues including breathing problems. The smoke is moving towards the city due to the wind direction. This is the fourth fire incident here in two months.
