THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran is under pressure to contest from Thiruvananthapuram, with the district councils to meet on March 1 for preparing possible CPI candidate panels at the four constituencies.
Even though the names of Panniyan Raveendran, Annie Raja and C. Divakaran are being raised in discussions, Kanam Rajendran might be the name the district council favor, considering his popularity. National Council’s decision will play a crucial role if Rajendran stays on his stand of not contesting.
At Mavelikkara constituency chances are for Adoor MLA Chittayam Gopakumar. Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam district councils should submit the names for Mavelikkara. In the light of Sabarimala controversy, poll results at Mavelikkara is crucial. The left party has ensured the support of backward communities.
C.N. Jayadevan, K.P. Rajendran and Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar are the popular names at Thrissur. However, Sunil Kumar has shown reluctance to contest the Lok Sabha polls. At Wayanad, many including the name of P. Vasantham, National Council member and wife of the late Sathyan Mokeri, is under consideration.
