PATHANAMTHITTA: When we hear an elephant’s name and family name, we always say think that they were all born and brought up in Kerala. However, when forest officers went for a survey, they were shocked to know that 393 of the total 521 elephants came from other states.
Forest department had decided to conduct a survey for preparing the list of owners. They were preparing a list of elephant’s name, place and history. Most elephants reached from Bihar. Number of elephants reached from other states - Bihar (110), Assam (87), Karnataka (36), Arunachal Pradesh (21), Andaman (19), Tamil Nadu (4), Maharashtra (5), Jharkhand (2), Odisha (1). When survey proceedings are completed, elephants cannot be brought from other states.
