KOTTAYAM: After taking the passengers in his bus to safety, a KSRTC driver died of a heart attack. Saju Mathew (43), a driver of Erattupetta depot, is the deceased. The incident was around 9.35 a.m. near Kodimatha Bridge at M.C. road.
The Thiruvananthapuram Fast Passenger bus driven by Saju started its journey from Erattupetta at 7.15 a.m. Saju felt discomfort while driving and he halted the bus by applying hand brakes. He fell onto the steering wheel. The conductor of the bus, Aneesh along with T.K. Lal, a driver from Chengannoor depot, moved Saju from the driving seat. He was given first aid treatment by two nurses, who were passengers of the bus. He was taken to the General Hospital on the same bus but was declared dead. There were about 25 passengers on the bus.
Saju had undergone Angioplasty three months back. The dead body is kept at the mortuary of a private hospital in Erattuppetta. Wife: Jansi, Daughter: Catherine.
