CHERTHALA: A police team rounded up CPI Cherthala Mandalam Committee office on Tuesday night after coming to know that a person accused of molesting a housewife was hiding there.
But the police had to withdraw after they came under pressure from political leaders.
The Pattanakkadu police team reached the office at around 11 in the night.
They came in search of Ignatius (37) aka Karuva Shaiju, who was an accused in a cases based on a complaint filed by an Andhakaranazhi house wife.

The information available with the police was that party had allowed a safe haven for the accused in the office as he is a CPI loyalist.

The police team comprises nine police officers under the leadership of Pattanakkadu SI. As the police was about to raid the party office, a few party leaders and workers gathered at the office. When the police insisted on searching the place, the leaders maintained that the accused was not in the office. A hot argument ensued between the police and party workers and finally police had to withdraw due to top political intervention.
By 12:30 am the police left the place but the leaders continued there till the break of dawn.
Party leader M C Sidharadhan alleged that the accused was not in the office and police were acting with vengeance.
