ALAPPUZHA: Dr. P.P. Paili is a heart patient, but his heart will become an ocean of kindness when he sees needy patients. He consults his patients even at 88 years of age. But for the patients, there is a board outside that reads: “Doctor is heart patient. If he feels uneasy due to illness, he will stop consultation. Please co-operate”.

Dr. Paili is a skin and sex specialist. Patients from different parts of Kerala come to visit him. He was affected by heart disease in 2005. He rarely rests even when he wants to. At last, he had to hang that board.

Now he consults patients and rests occasionally. Patients will wait for him while he rests. He consults over 50 patients a day. Paili’s patients say that he is gifted and even the toughest of diseases can be cured by him. Fees is not mandatory. You can give whatever you can afford. Even if you don’t have any money, the doctor will give the medicine for free.

Dr. Paili was born into a family of farmers. He passed MBBS from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in 1958. In 1960, he started working at Health Services in Thiruvananthapuram. He was appointed in Alappuzha Medical College in 1968. He retired after 21 years of service at Alappuzha Medical College.

Dr. Paili received several honors for his contributions.
