THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Marches are over, now all parties are looking forward to the elections. 'Kerala Samrakshana Yatra' of LDF and 'Jana Maha Yatra' of UDF have ended and both the fronts are now busy with seat allotment process.
Seat division discussions are in the last round. CPM state leadership will commence from Monday till Friday at Thiruvananthapuram. Party meets will be also held during this time.
Janata Dal-S may not get a seat this time. They had contested from Kottayam during the last Lok Sabha elections. Francis K Geroge may contest from Pathanamthitta. LDF has decided to hold a meeting on Friday on the end of CPM state committee meeting. CPI candidate list will be prepared befor the meeting. LDF seats will be divided between CPM and CPI.
CPI state council will be held on Monday and probability panel for different districts will be discussed. It will then be given to national leadership. Final decision will be taken after CPI national secretariat, executive and council meetings.
Seat sharing discussions are ongoing in UDF. Congress has decided to move forward with the candidature decisions. The Pathanamthitta DCC has come with a list avoiding the name of sitting MP Anto Antony. Instead the list carried the names of K Sivadasan Nair, DCC president Babu George and Mohanraj. The ‘I’ group has demanded to include the name of Anto Antony in the list. Even the ‘A’ Group has staged protests for excluding youngsters.
It has been evaluated that the BJP’s stand in the Sabarimala issue trying to protect the tradition of the famed temple will help the party open its account in Pathanamthitta. A section of the party is taking the initiative to field K Surendran, a popular face of the party, in Pathanamthitta as they assess that the party has winning chances here after Thiruvananthapuram. Apart from Surendran, the names of Alphons Kannanthanam and M T Ramesh are also heard.
His name is heard after considering his acceptance amongst the people over the Sabarimala issue. He was able to keep a close rapport with community organisations including the NSS and Pandalam Palace.
It has been hinted that Surendran was entrusted to lead Parivarthana Yatra in the Thiruvananthapuram region eyeing the polls. Surendran had gone to Perunna to pay floral tributes at Mannam Samadhi on Mannam Samadhi day. The party firmly believes that the party will win in Pathanamthitta, a safe constituency of the congress.
