KOLLAM: Sulaiman, brother of Shajahan who is the main accused in the murder of CPI(M) branch committee member Basheer in Valavupacha, Chithara has revealed that Shajahan is a CPM member. “We are all left-leaning people. We have not publicly displayed our politics. However, people are politicizing this issue by saying that Shajahan is a Congress member”, said Sulaiman.

Meanwhile, Shajahan said that he murdered Basheer due to personal vengeance as Basheer had teased Shajahan earlier. Basheer’s relatives had also clarified that the motive of the murder was personal and it was nothing political.

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had come forward alleging that Chithara murder was political. He had also said that it was a revenge for Periya murders. However, these revelations do not support this statement. Meantime, police FIR states that the murder occurred as a result of political and private reasons. Police prepared the FIR on the basis of the statement taken from Basheer’s brother. However, FIR does not clarify the politics behind the murder.
