THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kudumbashree’s ‘Kerala Chicken’ plan which aims at making chicken available at Rs 85 per kilogram will begin from September. Inauguration of Kerala Chicken Producer Company, which unifies manufacturing and selling of chicken products, was held at Palakkad. Functioning of the company at other districts will begin shortly.
The project will consist of a breeder farm with a production capacity of one lakh chicken fowls in a week, district wise hatcheries, 1000 farms, meat treatment plant with 50 tonnes of production capacity and selling counters. Breeder farms will be started at Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, and Kozhikode in the first phase. Respective Kudumbashree CDS are responsible for the proper functioning.
Currently, 549 chicken farms are functioning under different Kudumbashree units. There are 935 newly registered ones as well. In this way, 25,000 kilograms of chicken can be sold per day.
