THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In Kasargod all sitting MPs except P Karunakaran will be in the election fray. A consensus has been reached in the CPM State secretariat meeting on Tuesday.
The panel of probable candidates will be reported in district committees today. State committee will take a final decision on candidates on Thursday.
A Sambath (Attingal), M B Rajesh (Palakkad), P K Biju (Alathur) and P K Sreemathy (Kannur) will contest for the third time. No decision has been taken about actor Innocent’s candidature. Considering his health status, the decision has been left to him.
P Satheedevi and Muhammed Riyas are being considered for Vadakara constituency. V P Sanu and an independent candidate is being considered for Ponnani and Malappuram constituencies. K P Satheesh Chandran is likely to contest from Kasargode.
Janata Dal (S) may not get a seat this time. Their Kottayam seat will be taken over by the CPM. CPM will contest in 16 seats and CPI in four seats.
UDF is hoping to win in Kannur constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. K Sudhakaran will probably be the UDF candidate.
CPM believes that P K Sreemathy is highly popular in the constituency. Sreemathy had won with a majority of 6,566 votes in the previous elections. Party hopes that her majority will increase this year. The assemblies of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, ministers E P Jayarajan and Ramachandran are in this constituency. CPM has a majority of more than 40,000 votes in these assemblies. This gives more hope for the party.
Meantime, UDF also hopes to win back the constituency by fielding K Sudhakaran. UDF hopes that Sabarimala issue and Periya murders will be helpful for the party in the constituency.
