THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Joint Transport Commissioner V Suresh Kumar told the high court on Tuesday that he had given strict instruction to RTOs and Joint RTOs to ensure a safe journey for students travelling by bus.
The high court had asked for the explanation of the transport commissioner, based on a Kerala Kaumudi report that students are facing discrimination on board private buses.
Justice Anil K Narendran asked for the explanation while considering a petition filed by All Kerala Bus Operators’ Organisation which said that they had no liability for giving concessions to students in private buses.
In the report given by Suresh Kumar, it is said that bus employees have been given instruction to allow students to sit in the seat depending upon the seat availability. During school hours mobile enforcement team will conduct checking, if necessary, and take action. The travel issue along Thrissur-Chatthakudam route has been simplified. Field officers under RTO had conducted secret checking. Action was taken against four buses.
The picture that Kerala Kaumudi published on February 22 that help one to find out the Thrissur-Chatthkkudam route bus which allegedly showed discrimination towards students also reached the court on Tuesday. The court itself handed over the picture titled ‘Irippurakkathe Odunna bus’ to the parties in the case, allowing them to have a look at it.
