KOTTAYAM: The chances for split in Mani group of the Kerala Congress became evident soon after the Congress made it clear that only one seat can be allotted to the party for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
As party working chairman P J Jospeh is adamant about the seat, the Congress is making attempts to mellow him down. The infighting in the Kerala Congress M is likely to adversely affect UDF’s poll prospects in several constituencies. This is why the Congress is quickly trying to calm down Joseph.
In between this, Janathipathya Kerala Congress Chairman K Francis George invited P J Joseph to his party.
K M Mani has called for a parliamentary party meeting in the Kottayam Central office on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and UDF convenor Benny Behannan met Mani and P J Joseph separately and held discussions with them. Mullapally will against talk with P J Joseph during the day.
Mani and Joseph clamoured for two seats till the last minute in order to avoid split in the party even though they knew they would get only one seat. Mani had already expressed his wish that if only one seat is allotted, he would not give that to Joseph group.
