Advocate Jayashankar criticised the statement of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that his government has no plans to implement the Church Act. The Church Act has neither been mentioned in the manifesto of the LDF nor in Governor’s policy address. It was not even mentioned in the budget. Presenting a baseless draft of the bill at a time when polls are round the corner is a conspiracy of imperialist fascist forces, he wrote in his Facebook page.
The post says that the government has no intention to pass the Church Act. The act was not mentioned in the election manifesto of the LDF, or in governor’s policy address or even in the budget presented by the finance minister. Neither the government nor the government has any intention like that. The draft of the bill was not set with the permission of the government. We are not obliged to introduce and pass it in the assembly.
The chief minister said in a statement that his government has no plans to implement the Act. The law commission had not consulted the state government before going ahead with the Bill.
