The candidate list will be released with permission from polit bureau on Saturday. There are only two women in the list, P K Sreemathy (Kannur) and Veena George (Pathanamthitta).

There are six sitting MPs and three MLAs in the list. Sreemathy (Kannur), A Sampath (Attingal), P K Biju (Alathur), M B Rajesh (Palakkad), Innocent (Chalakkudi) and Joyce George (Idukki) are the sitting MPs. A Pradeep Kumar (Kozhikode), A M Arif (Alappuzha) and Veena George (Pathanamthitta) are the sitting MLAs.

Former MLA K P Satheesh Chandran will contest in Kasargod. SFI national president V P Sanu will contest in Malappuram. He is the youngest candidate.
Though there was a serious resentment among party workers in Chalakkudi against the candidature of Innocent, they were not able to find an alternate candidate. Nilambur MLA P V Anvar's name was suggested for Ponnani, however, it was later deduced that it was impossible to find a candidate for the by-elections if Anvar wins in the lok sabha constituency.
