KOZHIKODE: The government failed in preventing Maoist threat, said opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. During the tenure of the UDF, the operations of the Maoists were stopped without shedding a drop of blood. Gunning down Maoists was a strategic flaw of the present government, he said. Maoist leaders Shiny and Rupesh were jointly nabbed by the Kerala and Andhra Police.

The opposition will not agree if the government thinks that a solution can be found on this issue by gunning down everybody. The UDF had used effectively a team who attained training like thunderbolt. At that time there was no need to gun down anybody. Speculations prevail in Wayanad shooting. The chief minister should be ready to let the people know what the facts are, he said.

There have been reports on the presence of Maoists in Nilambur-Wayanad sector for the past few days. The incompetence of the government led to the firing. This is the third person killed in police firing after this government came to power.

Chennithala asked the police to reveal whether there were any cases in C P Jaleel’s name. Jaleel was the one who was killed in the gunfight with police in Wayanad yesterday. When there was firing in Nilambur we stood with the government, he said.
