THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fathima aka Pathu stood up for the first time in her life at the age of 22. It was just because of her will power that expert doctors could fix her genetically disintegrating bone.
When her classmate friends at Kottayam Athurashramam NSS medical college saw her standing up from her wheel chair, their joy knew no bounds. And, in her house at Kozhikode Thamarassery Thachamkoyil Vattikkunninmel house, it was celebrations.
On the third day of her life on this earth, her left leg bone fractured. Her leg was plastered then. Since then she broke the bone for about 60 times. She came to be known as the baby girl covered with plaster.
Fighting against all odds, her mother Amina and father Abdul Nazar enrolled their wheel-chair-bound daughter in Punoor UP School.
They were not ready to surrender their child to sufferings and debilities. Besides having weak bones, she also had some breathing trouble due to some bend in the back bone. After her studies in Thamarassery higher secondary school, she expressed her wish to become a homoeo doctor. She got admission in Kottayam Athurashram homoeo Medical College and the family shifted to a rented house in Kottayam for their convenience.
Fathima was able to stand up only after she underwent operation two months ago at Coimbatore hospital. She also started walking a little after that.
The big gift the wheel chair has given Fathima is ample reading time. Thus she also entered the world of writing. Now she is an active writer on social media and her blog titled ‘Dream Before Infinity’.
