THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At Attingal Lok Sabha constituency, A. Sampath has won in the last two Lok Sabha elections. The CPM didn’t have to think twice to give him a third chance. Meanwhile, the proposed Congress candidate Adoor Prakash is sure to give Sampath a challenging run.

Sampath’s first victory was in 1996 from Chirayinkeezhu constituency. In the elections that followed, Varkala Radhakrishnan contested in LDF seat. Since Chirayinkeezhu constituency changed its name to Attingal in 2009, Sambath secured two consecutive wins.

Sampath’s name was preoccupied in the mind of every voter in the constituency. Adoor Prakash is tipped to take on Sampath. If the leadership gives a green signal, that will happen.

Ezhava and Nair votes play a crucial role in this constituency. Muslim and Nadar votes also have a good share. Adoor Prakash can influence people in all such aspects, just like Sampath can.

BJP has sent names of former State President P.K. Krishnadas and State General Secretary Sobha Surendran to BJP central leadership. The final decision will be taken after considering RSS inputs as well.

Fortunes have swayed at Attingal constituencies. In 15 elections, Congress has won 5 times while the left party has won nine times.
