SULTHAN BATHERY: The forest department Monday morning captured the wild elephant ‘Vadakanadu Komban’ which claimed the lives of two and who had been creating fear among the villagers. The mission to capture the elephant started Sunday morning and by this morning they were able to capture it.

He was captured after administering tranquiliser dart. He was loaded to the lorry with the help of three kumki elephants and was brought to Muthanga elephant camp and housed in a makeshift tent.

A contingent of forest officials, veterinary doctors, tranquiliser experts, trackers and kumki (trained) elephants were employed to capture the elephant.

The jumbo, aged about 26 years, has been causing panic among people in various hamlets on the forest fringes.
