THIRUVALLA: The condition of Kavitha, who was set on fire by a youth for refusing his marriage proposal, continues to be serious. The girl who sustained 65% burns is undergoing treatment at the Burn ICU of a private hospital in Kochi. She sustained deep wounds after the youth stabbed her on her stomach. She had undergone a surgery at a hospital in Thiruvalla. She was taken to the hospital in Kochi yesterday afternoon. Hospital sources said that she will be in the ICU for at least a week. She is under the observation of a team of experts. Many including the girl’s relatives are in the hospital.

In the meantime, it is being circulated in the social media that the girl has succumbed to her injuries. The hospital is getting many calls after this. The police is likely to take action against those circulating the fake news. Investigating official Thiruvalla circle inspector P R Santhosh has sought legal opinion. Based on this, a case would be registered and further steps will be taken. The police is monitoring the news in the social media accounts.

Meantime, the court has remanded the accused Ajin Reji Mathew (18) and sent to Mavelikkara sub jail. The police will seek his custody for more questioning.
