KOCHI: Kerala police have informed the high court that in the agitation held against women’s entry in Sabarimala temple, BJP leaders will be made accused in all 1097 cases registered in this connection.

Hindu Aikya Vedi president K P Sasikala, Sabarimala Karmasamithy national general secretary SJR Kumar, Vice-presidents K S Radhakrishnan, T P Senkumar, president Govind Bharathan, BJP State president P S Sreedharan Pillai, State general secretaries K Surendran, M T Ramesh, A N Radhakrishnan, P K Krishnadas, O Rajagopal MLA, V Muraleedharan MP and RSS Prath Sangh Chalak PEB Menon will be made accused in the case,” Police headquarters AIG P P Asok Kumar said in the affidavit submitted in the court.

The police have already made them accused in certain cases and submitted the report in the court. There is a standing order from the Supreme Court that if hartal turns violent, leaders responsible for it should be present at the police station within 24 hours. If they don’t turn up, they should be declared absconders. Compensation for losses should be extracted from them and given to the victims.

According to the police, cases have been registered against BJP leaders for forced closure of shops, disruption of traffic, damaging party offices, attacking police and preventing police from discharging their duties.

Earlier the police had informed the court that in the January 2 attack, public property worth Rs 38.52 lakh and private property worth Rs 1.06 cr were damaged. In the violence that took place on January 2 and 3, 150 policemen, 141 people and 11 government staff were injured.
