NEW DELHI: Congress candidates for Lok Sabha polls will be announced tomorrow, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala told reporters before the congress screening committee meet in Delhi. He criticised the LDF saying that it is their style to announce the candidates early and accept defeat earlier itself.
In the meanwhile, congress denied the speculations on giving seat to P J Joseph in Idukki. No assurance has been given to anybody. Congress candidates will only contest in all seats, informed leaders of Kerala. With this, all chances for supporting K K Rema in Vadakara has come to an end.
The congress high command will take a decision on the candidature of K C Venugopal and Oommen Chandy. A complete picture will be obtained after the screening committee is convened later today. The list will be announced tomorrow. A final decision has not been taken on five or six seats out of the 16.
Only after a decision is taken on the candidature of K C Venugopal, a decision can be taken on Wayanad and Alappuzha seats. As per discussions so far, Adoor Prakash will contest from Attingal, T N Prathapan from Thrissur, Benny Behnan from Chalakudy, Remya Haridas from Alathur and V K Sreekandan from Palakkad.
The names of K V Thomas, Hibi Eden and name of a woman candidate is heard in Ernakulam. A final decision has not been taken in Pathanamthitta. There are chances for P C Vishnunath to contest from Kasargod if his name is not included in Alappuzha or Pathanamthitta. T Siddiq may be fielded either in Wayanad or Vadakara. Names of Mathew Kuzhalnadan, Joseph Vazhakkan and Dean Kuriakose are heard in Idukki.
There were reports earlier that P J Joseph and K K Rema will be fielded as independent candidates from Idukki. However, as the high command is not interested on it, the congress candidates will only contest from here.
