NEW DELHI: The Congress has reportedly finalised the list of candidates for 12 Lok Sabha seats except in Alappuzha, Wayanad, Attingal and Vadakara constituencies, where some confusion still exists. But, the offical announcement is yet to be made.

Five-time Ernakulam LS member K V Tomas was denied seat and instead of him, Hibi Eden was made the candidate. In front of the media, K V Thomas lambasted the Congress high command for denying him seat. Similarly KPCC spokesperson Rajmohan Unnithan was also unexpectedly made the Kasargod candidate.

Dean Kuriakose, T N Prathapan, V K Sreekantan and Remya Haridas were given seats to represent youths.

Among sitting seat MPs Shahsi Tharoor, Kodikunnil Suresh, Anto Antony and M K Raghavan got opportunities to contest the election.. Adoor Prakash and Shanimol Usman are being considered for Alappuzha and Attingal constituencies respectively.

No decision is taken on KC Venugopal’s Alappuzha seat, deceased MLA M A Shanawas’ Wayanad seat and Attingal candidate.

The hurdle was the argument between A and I Group over the candidature of Siddique (Wayanad) and Shanimol (Alappuzha). Raj Mohan, who was considered for Vadakara seat, was given Kasargod seat. With this Subbayyarai, who eyed Kasargod seat went out of the fray.

Mullapally and Chennithala said that names of four candidates will be announced on Sunday. In Idukki Dean Kuriakose was preferred to Jose Vazhakkan after group row.

The meeting to finalise the candidate list was convened at Sonia Gandhi’s house 6 pm went on till 8:30 pm. In the meeting attended by prominent leaders, a ddecision was taken only over 13 candidates.
